VILNIUS - The number of Lithuania’s residents who made at least one purchase on the Internet this year has grown considerably, by 21 percent, reports Verslosavaite. During the last two years the number of on-line shopping service users increased by 73 percent, as the survey published by TNS LT reports.

Seventeen percent of Lithuanian inhabitants make purchases on-line at least once per month. “The number of people buying goods on the Internet is still relatively low in our country. In Estonia, the number of e-purchases is two times bigger as compared to Lithuania. However, in Lithuania, Internet-assisted purchases have become regular. In fact, 97 percent of e-purchase devotees look for information on an item they want to buy on the Internet before making a deal. Consequently, the main factors in deciding what to acquire are comments and recommendations published in social media,” said TNS LT Director Gytis Juodpusis.

The typical and most active Internet-buyer is a 20-39 year-old person with higher education and above average income.
According to the study, managers do their purchases on the World Wide Web most often as compared to people with different occupations - 49 percent of all purchases are made on the Internet.
The most popular goods bought by Lithuanian consumers on the Internet are tickets - 32 percent; clothes, shoes, and accessories - 32 percent, electric appliances - 21 percent.

The least demanded goods of those purchased via the Internet are food, furniture and interior design items.
The survey was compiled in the winter this year, involving 1,667 respondents aged 15-74 years.
