RIGA - Over 16,000 competitors turned out in warm conditions on Sunday to compete in the 2011 Nordea Bank Riga Marathon, setting a new record for participants in the event. Competing over a number of distances, 16,358 runners turned up at the starting line – nearly 5,000 more than what competed in 2010, with over 10,000 of the participants opting to run in the five kilometer fun run.At the more serious end of the spectrum, the marathon distance, for both females and males, was dominated by runners from Africa, with Julius Kuto of Kenya winning the men’s race in a record ...
