TALLINN - European Commission President Jose Barroso has praised Estonia's economic efforts and said he supports the country's bid to join the eurozone next year.

“I share the prime minister’s desire that Estonia will join the euro zone next year,” Barroso said following a meeting with Prime Minister Andrus Ansip in Brussels.

“Estonia will be judged on the basis of its own performance,” he said.  “Recent developments in other euro-area member states will not influence the commission’s assessment.”
