Ligi blasts Laar on economy

Feb 01, 2010

TALLINN - Estonian Finance Minister Jürgen Ligi has lashed out at IRL chairman adn former Prime Minister Mart Laar for promises he made on the economy.

In a welcome address at his party's congress, Laar made a number of promises to the tune of decreased taxes while maintaining spending.

"Such promises can be made when you have a budget surplus, but not when there will be several years of budget deficit. It is also not realistic to pay back loans at the same time, as promised by Laar. His words have nothing in common with Estonia's euro aspirations and the convergence program that the government approved on Thursday," Ligi told Äripäev.
