VILNIUS - Lithuania's national police chief has said that he will begin transferring police suspected of taking bribes into positions where they will not have the opportunity, alfa.lt news portal reported.

Police chief Vizgirdas Telycenas said bribery was on the rise because of the crisis, and he was doing what he could to hold officers responsible for their actions.

Telycenas said corruption was most problematic among highway patrolmen.
