Man sentenced for child molestation

The man took his victims to his home in Saulkrasti, where he sexually molested them over a period of years.

RIGA - The Riga Regional Court has handed down nearly nine years of prison time for a British citizen convicted of child molestation in Latvia.

In a high profile case the man was convicted of taking "street children" from Riga and transporting them to the nearby town of Saulkrasti, where the victims were sexually molested.

The case was resolved in one day after the defendent pled guilty to all charges.

Altogether the man was convicted of 46 offences, which took place between summer 2005 and October 2008, Latvian national news agency LETA reported.

The man was also forced to pay 9,310 lats in fines to the families of the victims.

He has been arrested in the UK before for child pornography and he is on the country's sexual register.
