VILNIUS - Today, Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaite has had a meeting with the chairman of the European Parliament fraction “Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe†Guy Verhofstadt. He has offered several suggestions regarding the support of the Baltic countries and the countries of the Central Europe in their efforts to overcome the aftermaths of the economic recession
These suggestions will soon be presented on the one of the following plenary sessions of the European parliament.
The president gave a positive evaluation to these ideas and pointed out, that the European Union should pay more attention to the issues of the energy security, as to the development of the trans-European nets.
Speaking about the introduction of the euro, the president specified, that the entrance to the Euro-zone should become an instrument, that can stabilize state finances, that is why there is no need in softening the Maastricht criteria.
