Lithuanian president and the leader of the EU liberals have discussed the plan to support the Baltic countries

VILNIUS - Today, Lithuanianpresident Dalia Grybauskaite has had a meeting with the chairman ofthe European Parliament fraction "Allianceof Liberals and Democrats for Europe" Guy Verhofstadt. He hasoffered several suggestions regarding the support of the Balticcountries and the countries of the Central Europe in their efforts toovercome the aftermaths of the economic recession

Thesesuggestions will soon be presented on the one of the followingplenary sessions of the European parliament.

Thepresident gave a positive evaluation to these ideas and pointed out,that the European Union should pay more attention to the issues ofthe energy security, as to the development of the trans-Europeannets.

Speaking about the introduction of the euro,the president specified, that the entrance to the Euro-zone shouldbecome an instrument, that can stabilize state finances, that is whythere is no need in softening the Maastrichtcriteria.
