Indrek Tarand, the son of  former Prime Minister Andres Tarand, has made history by securing the best results for an independent candidate in the history of Estonia. Tarand received more than 100,000 votes and will enter the European Parliament as one of only 6 MEPs from Estonia. Moreover, his election campaign cost only 40,000 kroons, while the Center Party – which beat Tarand by just a few hundred votes – spent 15 million kroons.
