There are fears Irish low-cost airline Ryanair will file suit for cancelled discounts that it benefited from in Riga. As of November, airBaltic and Ryanair will lose their 80 percent discount at the airport and thus a key competitive advantage over other airlines. Riga Airport President Krisjanis Peters did not rule out the possibility that the airline may contest the fee increase given the company's aggressive business strategy. Ryanair has not indicated whether it plans to take action over the planned fee hike.

Latvian tobacco products wholesaler LLTT recorded a 268,063 lats (381, 419) profit in 2008, according to the Registry of Enterprises Lursoft database, up from 254,996 in 2007. Last year the company achieved 37.68 million lats in turnover, compared with 26.18 million lats turnover in 2007. In November last year, tobacco products wholesaler Sonitex Distribution & Logistics announced plans to acquire a share at LLTT, however, no other details were provided about the acquisition. LLTT is one of the key players in tobacco products market in Latvia.

Rimi Baltic stores turned over 10.8 percent less (excluding value-added tax) in May compared to the same period last year, Rimi Latvia public relations manager Zane Enina told LETA. Sales of the supermarket giant in May 2009 totaled 101.1 million euros: Rimi Eesti Food turned over 31.2 million euros, Rimi Latvia 49.4 million euros and Rimi Lietuva 20.5 million euros. In the first five months this year, Rimi Baltic sales reached 499.3 million euros, or 4.3 percent less compared to the same period in 2008. Rimi Baltic has 241 stores in the Baltic countries, including 76 in Estonia, 100 in Latvia and 65 in Lithuania.
