Latvian teachers prepared to strike

RIGA - Dissatisfied with low pay and a deficit-conscious government, more than 42,000 teachers have tentatively planned a one-day strike for Nov. 16.The Education and Scientific Workers Trade Union of Latvia, which represents 54,000 teachers, said it is pressing Saeima (Latvia's parliament) to live up to its obligation to increase salaries under the education law."We have done everything we can leading up to this strike.
