airBaltic to fly to US in 2010

RIGA - The Latvian national air carrier, airBaltic, has said that it will most likely start flying to the United States in 2010.

"We are planning and considering launching flights to the U.S., but theexisting situation is not beneficial. I think that we will wait until thesituation improves and launch the flights to the U.S. not next year but twoyears from now," airBaltic President Bertold Flick told the Baltic News Service.

The Airbaltic head said the decision to start flightshas not been taken yet. "The decision on starting the flights to the U.S. has notbeen taken yet, but we do not want to take the risk of launching suchflights in the given circumstances," he said.

Flick said that Airbaltic would not have to buy new planes to start flyingto the U.S., as its existing aircraft were suitable for such Trans-Atlanticflights.
