Ready, set, sign: Referendum campaign starts July 20

RIGA – The Central Election Commission (CEC) announced this week that signatures for a referendum on changes to the citizenship law will be collected in Latvia and at consulates and diplomatic missions abroad from July 20 to Aug. 18.A referendum will be staged sometime this fall if 10 percent of Latvia's registered voters sign the petition, according to CEC Chairman Arnis Cimdars.A slate of amendments to the citizenship law that includes abolishing naturalization windows and automatic naturaliza ...
