Goodbye Latvians
Re: Progress towards US visa-free regime (issue no. 624)As a Californian living in Latvia for three years now, I can say that this visa deal with the United States will only hurt my home country – we have enough illegal immigrants taking all the jobs. Give them an inch and they take a mile is what I have seen since living here and I know that once they get a taste of the glorious sunshine and have a wallet full of cash so thick you could choke a horse with it, they just won’t come back! I think it is great to let people travel away from their home country and let them see the world without hassles, but how can the government control people who are used to doing things under the table and on the black market. I have read in The Baltic Times about drug busts and tax-free cigarette smuggling. Is this really a good idea Mr. Bush?
