VILNIUS - Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus has undergone corrective eye surgery, the president’s press service said.
Adamkus had lens replacement surgery on his right eye on Thurday afternoon. The president was released from the hospital on Thursday evening, and has spent Friday recovering at his home. The procedure took 20 mintes and was performed under local anesthesia.
It was the second surgery that Adamkus, 81, has undergone this year. In May the president received a heart stimulator implant. At the time, doctors said the condition which led to the surgery – a heart arrhythmia – was the result of tension and stress.
Adamkus has been undergoing annual check-ups and informing the populace about his state of health on an annual basis since his election to the post in 1998.
