800,000 Euro to Olympians
VILNIUS - Lithuanianathletes, placing first to eighth place in the Beijing Summer Olympic Games will be awarded cash prizes worth a total of 2.755 million litas (EUR 799,000).
The head of the Lithuanian Department of Physical Education and Sports Algimantas Kuksta told The Baltic News Service that the highest amounts will be given to silver medal winners, Lithuania's sailing star Gintare Volungeviciute and Modern Pentathlon participant Edvinas Krungolcas, who will receive 350,000 litas (EUR 101,000) each.
Bronze medal winners wrestler Mindaugas Mizgaitis and Modern Petathlon competitor Andrejus Zadneproviskis will receive 262,500 litas (EUR 76,100) each, while discus thrower Virgilijus Alekna will be awarded 187,500 litas (EUR 54,300) also for the bronze.
Fourth-place winner in Beijing's Olympic Games, Lithuania's national basketball team will receive a total of 960,500 litas (EUR 278,400).
Fifth-place winner in shooting Daina Gudzineviciute and boxer Jaroslavas Jaksto, who is sharing the fifth to eighth place with other athletes, will each receive 105,000 litas (EUR 30,400) , sixth-place winner bicycle rider Vilija Sereikaite will be given 70,000 litas (EUR 20,300), seventh-place winner wrestler Mindaugas Ezerskis will receive 52,500 litas (EUR 15,200), while eight-place winners bicycle rider Simona Krupeckaite and rower Mindaugas Griskonis will each be awarded 35,000 litas (EUR 10,100)
