Nordea, GILD pick up awards

Jul 11, 2008
By Mike Collier

Nordea has been named 'Best Regional Bank in the Nordics and Baltics' in the Euromoney magazine awards 2008. Euromoney is a British-based international finance magazine, and while the awards carry no  official weight, fresh silverware always looks good in the corporate cabinet.

It is the second time in two years that Nordea has claimed the regional crown.

Nordea also picked up a gong as 'Best Bank in Finland' for the sixth time. Euromoney's panel of judges has taken into account volume of business transacted, innovation and leadership, credit ratings, quality of assets and earnings, efficiency ratios and key performance indicators.
"We are very proud to be able to accept these awards, and see this as added confirmation that we are acknowledged as the leading bank in the Nordic region. The dedicated efforts of our people and our focus on helping our customers to achieve their goals have been the basis of this success," said Nordea's Carl-Johan Granvik.

Another Baltic winner was Estonian company GILD Bankers which won in the category - admittedly rather esoteric - for Best Mergers and Acquisitions house in Estonia.

Euromoney acknowledged GILD Bankers for an impressive track record of innovative and market leading transactions in the assessed period across a number of industries in Estonia.

In 2007  GILD Bankers completed several landmark transactions in online media, including the sales of popular web portals auto24 . ee and www.cvkeskus.ee . In addition GILD advised the car retail group ELKE in the sale of shares to Amber Trust, Baltic booze distributor.
