RIGA- Defense Minister Vinets Veldre (People's Party) got several thank you letters from passengers of the cruise ship ''Mona Lisa''.

Vineta Kleine from the Defense Ministry's Press Department told LETA that the passengers thanked the defense minister for coordinating a successful and professional evacuation of the ship, and especially emphasized the support and understanding of National Armed Forces soldiers during the rescue operation.

As reported earlier, the rescue operation of the ''Mona Lisa'' has cost LVL 135,000, according to calculations made by the Interior Ministry.

The ship has already left VentspilsPort and is on its way back to Germany.
