VILNIUS- A duplicate of the bronze sculpture of Frank Zappa is headed to his native Baltimore  from Vilnius this week, sculpted by the premiere sculptor in Lithuania.

Zappa has been cited as an inspiration for several artistic freedom movements in the former Soviet Union and Lithuania.

Saulius Paukstys, who heads the local fan club in Vilnius is also a photographer and was part of the movement to have a Zappa statue erected there. The bust was unveiled in 1995 and Paukstys thought that it would be a nice gesture to make a duplicate, and send it to Baltimore as a thank you gift “making this big personality”

After years of trying to convince both governments of the  plan, he has finally had his first success as the mayors of both towns have agreed to unveil the statue on Zappa’s birthday December 21.
