RIGA - When asked by my editor to do a piece on professional ice hockey in Latvia, I looked at my black-and-white junior high school pictures with nostalgia. Mid-70s  Riga was a glorious time, when local team "Dinamo" was headed by the stern and intense coach Viktor Tikhonov. This coach had taken the amateur team from Riga to de-facto professional heights and earned them a place in the Elite League of the Soviet Union in 1974.
