Estonian PM wins international accolade

LONDON - The British business magazine Foreign Direct Investment has named Estonain Prime Minister Andrus Ansip its Personality of the Year 2007 for Europe.

"We have been very impressed with the business-friendly economic and tax policies which you have pursued during your time in office and which have contributed to Estonia's highly attractive investment environment, impressive GDP growth, booming export sector and technological prowess," fDi magazine [sic] said in its homily.

Each year, the magazine recognizes the political and business leaders around the world who have been the most proactive, dynamic and innovative in securing foreign investment and improving the business environments of their jurisdictions.

Regional winners are selected for Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North America; out of these candidates a global winner is chosen.

fDi is published by the Financial Times Group in London.

The awards ceremony will be held in Kuala Lumpur on Aug. 31. Ansip does not plan to travel to the Malaysian capital in person and the award will be accepted on his behalf by the Estonian honorary consul in New Delhi, Anil Vig.
