If you see a hitchhiker on Estonian roads in the coming days, be kind and offer them a ride. They're likely to be taking part in the "Do You Know Your Homeland?" competition, in which couples race to reach 45 checkpoints around Estonia. The race begins in Tartu on Monday July 23 and ends in Viljandi at sunset on Thursday July 26 's just in time for the city's famous folk festival. "A lot of drivers know about it and are willing to go out of their way to help," said organizer Brit Peensoo. "I did it last year, and it was the most fun event of the summer."
