Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced at a meeting with Latvian Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks, which took place in Sweden on Wednesday, that Russia is ready to receive a state visit by the Latvian President.
There has been widespread talk that incumbent President Vaira Vike-Freiberga would be able to make the visit after the conclusion of the border treaty, but the plans were never played out. Lavrov now says that a visit by the newly-elected President Valdis Zatlers may be possible in autumn of this year.
Lavrov also stated plans for his own visit to Latvia, sometime after the Russian Duma ratifies the border treaty.
