An Orthodox priest and a Lutheran minister on Saturday held a service for the dead at the site of the war grave that had been underneath the Bronze Soldier monument before the surveying works in the identification area are started, the Estonian Defense Ministry said.

The ecumenical prayer service contained the prayers for the dead of both the Lutheran and Orthodox churches.

Orthodox priest Aivar Sarapik read the prayer for the dead in accordance with the Orthodox tradition, and the prayer in accordance with the Lutheran tradition was read by Lutheran Mminister Taavi Laanepere.

The essence of the prayer for the dead is to pray for departed souls. The procedure can be carried out regardless of time and place, especially if it is not known who has died and where the person's grave is situated, the Defense Ministry said.
