RIGA - Latvia's special minister for society integration, Oskars Kastens, supports the idea of reintroducing the possibility of dual citizenship.
Kastens told BNS that if Latvians residing abroad were able to obtain dual citizenship it would strengthen their ties to the native country.
The minister has instructed the Diaspora Department to work on the issue, but his secretariat's spokeswoman said that the issue was still "in the planning stage".
Previous ministers established a task force in cooperation with non-governmental organizations to look for ways to motivate Latvia's diaspora to return to their motherland. Reintroducing dual citizenship was one of the mooted options.
