From Russia with love

The Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga has long enjoyed a permanent exhibition of Russian art from the 1870s through the 1930s.

This was a key period in Russian painting 's a period of Ivan Kramskoi, Alexei Savrasov, Ilya Repin, Vasily Surikov and Nikolai Bogdanov-Belsky.
Russian realism offered a firm analysis and critique of contemporary society and painting represents Russian art from the 1870s to the 1930s most completely. During this period the Russian school of art developed rapidly and acquired its distinct national character.
