TALLINN - Former Estonian prime minister Mart Laar will again contend for the post in next year's general election after the board of the Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica supported his candidature.
The decision means Laar is most likely to lead the united conservative parties to the coming election and will take the post of prime minister if successful.
He beat rival Jaak Aaviksoo, former rector of Tartu University, who expressed disappointment at the decision-making process.
