TALLINN - The controversial ship Probo Koala has been given permission to leave Estonia after its cargo of environmentally hazardous waste was delivered to a waste processing center.
The waste handling company, EcoPro, carried a total of 570 tons of slops from the Probo Koala to the Vaivara center, a spokesperson from the environmental inspectorate said.
The company estimates it will take up to a month to process the toxic waste.
While the ship has been cleared to leave, it remains the focus of criminal investigations in Estonia, the Netherlands and the Ivory Coast.
