Five youngsters detained for racist remarks against black foreigner

RIGA - Officers of the Latvian state police detained five young people in Riga on Sept. 4 for shouting racist remarks at a black Canadian citizen, a police spokesman said.
The Canadian, 43, was at a Riga movie theater at 6:30 pm. when several young people began shouting racial epithets at him. He went inside the theater and called the police.
Officers detained three boys, 19, 17 and 16, and two girls, 18 and 17.
Law enforcement authorities have launched a criminal procedure over violation of racial equality and the restriction of human rights.
