TALLINN - Estonian President Arnold Ruutel, congratulating students and their parents on the occasion of the beginning of the school year, appealed to young people to see their successful peers from Estonia as examples.
"Every generation has its idols and ideals," Ruutel said speaking on the public ETV and Radio Estonia. "There is no need to go far or look high to find examples. It pays to look for them among your own peers and relatives."
The president called on young people to find interesting hobbies and great examples. "Look around right here, in your own neighborhood," he said. "You will certainly see people there from whom you can learn a lot."
Ruutel quoted the example of young people who took part in the recent Geography Olympiad in Australia, winning four medals, including two gold medals, adding that only a few days later three medals were brought back to Estonia from the International Chemistry Olympiad.
