TALLINN - The Vaivara local government has promised to award of 5,000 kroons (320 euros) for information leading to vandals who damaged signposts along hiking trails and monuments at Sinimaed, the site of historic World War II battles.
Vaivara communal governor Veikko Luhalaid said wooden signposts and information tablets were destroyed days after being posted by members of the Estonian Reserve Officers' Body at Grenadier Hill.
In the last days of July, a 4,000-kroon monolithic wooden table and two waste bins were stolen from the foot of Grenadier Hill.
In 1944, some of the worst battles of WWII occurred at Sinimaed between advancing Soviet forces and German troops.
