Six punished after Riga parachuting tragedy investigation

An internal investigation of a botched parachuting exercise in Riga on May 15 that resulted in the deaths of two paratroopers has resulted in punishing six soldiers, among them a few officers, army spokesman Uldis Davidovs said. Five soldiers were reprimanded. One soldier was dismissed from his position. Davidovs declined to reveal the soldiers' names or positions. BNS reported that Latvian National Armed Forces special operations unit commander Andris Bukovskis was also punished.The officers will be given five days to appeal the decision before the Defense Ministry's appellate commission.
