Prime Minister Andrus Ansip called for a new president to succeed President Arnold Ruutel, even as he praised the incumbent's accomplishments.
Ruutel had encouraged Estonia's EU accession, but that like a wise athlete who knows it is time to leave the arena, it was time for him to leave a space for younger candidates, Ansip said.
"We believe that Estonia needs the baton to be passed on," he said.
