Alida Valli, an icon of the Italian screen 's Mussolini described her as the second most beautiful woman in the world after Greta Garbo 's died on April 22 at 84.
Valli is best known for her role as Anna Schmidt, the evil Harry Lime's grieving girlfriend in "The Third Man" (1949). Her exit from the film, in which she marches away from a funeral directly towards the camera while the noble Joseph Cotton looks on from the side, is one of the great images in cinematic history.
