Olympic athlete leads hunger strike

RIGA - Latvia's Olympic bronze medalist, Martins Rubenis, led a hunger strike outside the Chinese Embassy in Riga last week, protesting repression in the communist nation. "It was a joint initiative, not only my initiative," he said. "I think that people should give serious thought to what is happening in China." The champion luger told the Baltic News Service that the three-day demonstration was successful.
