Wood processor chips away at Latvian market

RIGA - The Latvian Competition Council gave international wood processing giant Kronospan permission to acquire Latvian chipboard producer Bolderaja on March 21. The process wasn't smooth, since Kronospan incurred a fine of 20,000 lats (28,460 euros) for failing to provide the necessary information on time. The council agreed that the change of ownership would not directly strengthen Bolderaja's dominance on the local market, as Kronospan does not plan to sell chipboards in Latvia, said the competition watchdog's representative Dana Sosnovska.
