Estonian Defense Minister Jurgen Ligi has called for a boost in defense spending by at least one billion kroons (63.9 million euros) by 2010, according to the Eesti Paevaleht daily.

Ligi's proposal has caused divisions in his own Reform Party, besides leaving politicians in other parties wary as well.

Ain Seppik, the head of the parliamentary faction of the coalition Center Party, said, "we would like to know exactly where this money will be going and how the state and the nation will benefit from it."
