RIGA - Half a million stamps dedicated to renowned Latvian conductor Mariss Jansons have been issued in Austria, the daily Diena reported.

The stamp commemorates the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's New Year concert, where it performed classical pieces under the leadership of Jansons. The concert was broadcast internationally to more than 50 million viewers.

The face value of the stamp is 0.75 euros.

Jansons has been leading the Bavarian Radio Symphonic Orchestra in Munich since 2003, and in 2004 he became chief conductor of the Dutch Royal Concertgebow Orchestra.
