TALLINN LIGHT FEST
Fri 3 's Sat 11 's This year's Tallinn Light Festival will have a new theme "Ice and Fire." For years, the festival has been made up of ice and snow sculptures, as well as staged fire performances, especially Christmas-tree bonfires. But, as of 2006, the festival aims at combining the two, as a reflection of the tiny country of Estonia itself - hot and cool. The Tallinn Light Festival is a thermometer, indicating the warming of Nordic culture.

TRADITIONAL HORSE RACE 2006
Sat 4 's There are good reasons to go to Zarasai in the dead of winter. For one thing, nearly half of Lithuania seems to go there. For another, there's a great horserace in Dusetos. And hey, Dusetos: that place is like a festive oasis in the middle of so much bleakness. Plan ahead. A lot of people will be coming as well.
