Summer slump

  • 2005-09-14
This summer saw a nine percent decrease in U.S. box office takings compared with last year.

Although the tally of $3.15 billion was the fourth-highest earning summer on record, it's still a marked decrease from last summer's record box office haul. As widely expected, the biggest earner was "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith," which grossed $379.8 million, followed by "War of the Worlds" and "Batman Begins." The movie summer season traditionally falls between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
