Bad grades for 82 schools

RIGA - Surveys conducted by three separate agencies have identified 82 schools throughout Latvia that are in violation of safety standards, the Education Ministry reported last week.The news was announced just days before the Sept. 1 opening of the new school year, but ministry officials say it is too early to tell precisely how derelict some of the buildings really are until a further investigation is conducted.
