Long-standing head of Latvian child rights watchdog resigns

Laila Rieksta-Riekstina, who had served as the head of the Latvian State Inspectorate For Protection Of Children's Rights for nearly 11 years, has decided to resign. Anita Gotharde, the deputy chief of the inspectorate, confirmed to LETA that Rieksta-Riekstina had tendered her resignation. Rieksta-Riekstina told LETA she had tendered her resignation on June 1 and will leave the post on July 1. She said her decision was due to family circumstances and had nothing to do with political pressure or differences with the Welfare Ministr...
