Lithuania has yet to fulfill France's request to send troops to Mali, although talks about the country's contribution to the UN peace-keeping mission MINUSMA in the African country have been underway since the beginning of the year. "After the UN Security Council renewed the mandate (of MINUSMA) in June 2016, the need for troops in the operation increased.
