Lithuania’s biggest Olympic hope in tears, empty-handed

Lithuania’s hopes for its first Rio Olympics medal were dashed after Ruta Meilutyte, the gold winner in the 100 metre breaststroke in 2012 London Olympic Games, came in seventh in the final. Lilly King of the United States won the race on Monday, Aug. 8, denying gold to Russia’s Yulia Efimova, the steroid scandal-engulfed swimmer, who was greeted with resounding boos from the Rio de Janeiro crowd. Katie Meili of the United States took the bronze. King won the race in 1:04.93 minutes, Yefimova came in at 1:05.50, and Meili finished at 1:05.69...
