Latvian president makes official visit to Poland

RIGA - Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis and his wife Iveta Vejone will be on an official visit to Poland on May 15-16, the presidential press service said.

Vejonis is scheduled to meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda as well as with Marek Tadeusz Kuchcinski, Marshal of the Sejm [the lower house of the Polish parliament], and Stanislaw Karczewski, Marshal of the Senate [the upper house].

They are expected to discuss the security situation in the region, including implementation of the decisions taken at the NATO summit in Warsaw, the future of the EU, Brexit and migration issues. The officials will underline the importance of developing regional infrastructure through the implementation of international projects such as Rail Baltica railway line and Via Baltica highway.

During his visit to Poland, the Latvian president will also lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the eternal flame at Pilsudski Square in Warsaw.
