Latvian ambassador for diaspora to meet with Latvians in the U.S.

RIGA  - Atis Sjanits, the Latvian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large for the Diaspora, will take part in the 66th Annual Congress of the American Latvian Association in Chicago on May 5-7, the Foreign Ministry announced.

Sjanits will meet with the Latvian community and exchange views on issues of key importance for the diaspora. He will give a speech at the panel discussion entitled "The role of the diaspora in the framework of the national development of the Latvian state".

The congress will feature discussions on engagement with the diaspora for the promotion of Latvia's economic growth and security, and sharing experience among Latvian businesses, the Centennial of Latvia, cooperation between diaspora organizations, their future, and the diaspora-related culture and education matters.

The Annual Congress of the American Latvian Association will bring together the most active members of the Latvian community and delegates from diaspora organizations and institutions in Latvia. The guests invited to the congress also include the Ambassador of Latvia to the U.S., Andris Teikmanis.

The Latvian Foreign Ministry said that the U.S. was a home to one of the largest Latvian communities across the globe, therefore, the ministry is closely cooperating with the American Latvian Association and also providing support for the diaspora projects in the U.S.
