IT, manufacturing, transport sectors have biggest number of vacancies in job market

RIGA - Latvia’s IT, manufacturing, and transport sectors show the biggest number of vacancies in the job market, said State Employment Agency’s director Evita Simsone in an interview with the Latvian public radio on Tuesday.

Also, a large number of vacancies has been registered in wholesale and retail, construction, accommodation, and catering sectors.

Simsone said that there is a shortage of high qualified and low qualified workers alike.

In total, unemployment level in Latvia is declining, and it is expected that it will drop 0.3-0.4 percentage points this year.

The registered unemployment in Latvia increased by 0.1 percentage points in January to 8.5 percent. In early January this year, there were 78,357 people registered with the State Employment Agency as jobless as their number increased by 1,659 people over the month.
