Ex-Labour Party leader acquitted of fraud

Monday February 1 saw Lithuania’s Court of Appeal acquit the former leader of the country’s Labour Party, Viktor Upaskich, of large-scale tax avoidance.  Now a Member of the European Parliament, Upaskich was given a fine of 6,800 euros for fraudulent bookkeeping. On July 12, 2013, Vilnius Regional Court found Uspaskich guilty of fraud and and sentenced him to four years in prison. Prosecutor Saulius Verseckas of the Prosecutor General's Office had asked the court to increase his sentence to six years in prison....
