Estonian minister confirms support for energy supply investments in food industry

TALLINN – Estonian Minister of Rural Affairs Urmas Kruuse signed a regulation with which investments to be made to ensure security of energy supply in the food and beverage industries will be supported.

"The food industry has an important role to play in our daily security because they supply food to us every day," Kruuse said in a press release. The measure was developed in cooperation with various entrepreneurs and representative organizations, and the application round for investment support will be opened already in September.

Businesses whose main activity is food production or beverage production can apply for support for the purchase of equipment or construction of a building necessary to ensure security of energy supply. The purchase of a generator, which can be used as a temporary power source if necessary, will also be supported. Applications can be submitted in the e-service environment of the Estonian agricultural registers and information authority PRIA from Sept. 14 to 28.

The maximum amount of support for a micro or small business is up to 250,000 euros. For medium-sized enterprises and large enterprises, the maximum support is up to 500,000 euros. The budget for the application round is planned to be around 14 million euros.
