It took quite a long time, but on Feb. 11, Latvia finally got a new government to replace the one that was led by Laimdota Straujuma.  The new prime minister, as readers will know, is Maris Kucinskis from the Latvian Alliance of the Green Party and Farmers Union (ZZS), although in fact he represents one of the minor partners in that alliance, the Liepaja Party. The first thing to say about the new coalition is that it is more or less indistinguishable from the previous one, which raises the question as to why the Straujuma government had to fall in the first place.
