RIGA - During this week's meeting between the presidents of the Baltics states and U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, matters related to strengthening security and cooperation will be discussed, President Raimonds Vejonis said at a press conference today.

He said that the main topics on the agenda will be security in the region and around the world, including the fight against terrorism.

At the same time, the president also said that matters related to strengthening cooperation with the new U.S. presidential administration will also be discussed, as ''the president has changed, there is a new administration, so we must look for ways to promote and strengthen this cooperation''.

Vejonis said that he hopes to receive yet another confirmation from the U.S. side that the United States, just like all other NATO members, will fulfill its commitments to the alliance. The president once again reminded that Latvia is committed to increase its defense spending to the required two percent of GDP by 2018.

As reported, the meeting between Pence and the Baltic president could take place this Saturday.
